Ilha Grande is the main island in Rio de Janeiro state, the island used to be a frequented by pirates in the old days and also had importance for slave trade during colonial years but has since been transformed to an environmental protectorate. The means of transportation on the island is either by foot or by boat since there are no cars on the island. The small center is called Abraão where there are some some restaurants and hotels present. The surrounding nature is perfect for practicing water sports as well as hiking along the many trails in the Atlantic rainforest.
