The Favela da Rocinha, the famous ghetto in Rio situated on the hill side of the southern part of Rio where about 200 thousand people live, is a famous place for tourists to visit and see how the less economically fortunate people live their lives. Favela da Rocinha started to be explored for tourism in the mid 90's after the Earth Summit, ECO 92. All tours, either by bus or by foot, are made with authorized agencies according to the rules for tourism circulation inside the "favela". Rocinha is considered a "museum in movement".
