The Carnival is Brazil's most popular festival where Rio de Janeiro is the most prominent carnival city attracting millions of national and international tourists. During 5 days between February and March (depending on the dates for easter each year) the non-stop festivities take place where samba, happiness and vibrant colors are mixed together. The carnival always begins on a Saturday and ends the following Wednesday. The competition to win the carnival is severe and involves a lot of big investments for the samba communities. Portela, Salgueiro, Mangueira and Beija-Flor are the names of some of the most traditional samba schools in Rio de Janeiro.
